Community encourages members to nominate Ian
The Community trade union has encouraged its members to ensure Ian Murray makes the final ballot for Labour deputy leader.
The union has formally nominated Keir Starmer and Angela Rayner, but added: “We also strongly encourage our members in CLPs to ensure Ian Murray makes the final ballot so that Labour members have the option of voting for him.
“Labour wins when it embraces ideas from across our broad church and Ian being on the ballot sends a clear message that every nation and region of the UK matters to the Labour Party.”
Ian Murray MP, Labour deputy leadership candidate, said:
“Community never stops fighting for the workers of Britain, and I was proud to work closely with the union to stand against a hard Brexit when others were ready to facilitate our departure from the EU.
“I will always work side-by-side with Community members, and in particular look forward to visiting steelworkers in Lincolnshire during the campaign.
“I welcome Community’s message to members across the UK to help me make the final ballot, and thank the union for recognising that a Scottish voice at the top of the UK party is critical.
“The Labour Party must be a party for every nation and region of the UK so that we can win together on behalf of every worker in the country.”Back to Articles
